William Turnbull asks the City Councillor, Mayor, School Trustee Candidates

Why do you want to be elected?

William James Turnbull

I feel the majority of citizens are being left out & left behind with the current Mayor, CAO & Staff run city. I want to see a Council / Public tell the staff what they want & make sure the CAO ensure staff makes it happen. This is why I am running for mayor.

Caroline King

I have been involved in the political arena for some time and want to do more for my city.

Alison Klie

I want to be elected because I will bring a different voice and point of view to council. I grew up in Kamloops and want to do my part to make it a better place.

I’m new to this, I never had planned to run for council, but I felt I had to accept the challenge from friends and family to stand up and represent the people, those who never vote, never participate, don’t feel there is anyone listening, or those that are tired of the same faces in the same places and want change. If voting didn’t matter, why do the same people keep running and the same people keep voting them in government? I don’t have all the answers but I’m learning and excited to continue learning how to be a city representative.

Corally Delwo

I want to be elected because I believe I am very capable of bringing a balance to city council. I would like to think that I can be very open minded, fair, objective and innovative when it comes to tackling the issues surrounding the city. I also feel that I would be least biased as I do not own any business that could benefit from being on council, nor do I belong to any type of union. What I do have is the passion, drive and motivation to work for all of the people who are hard working people who just want to have a beautiful, clean, prosperous and family oriented city. I want to be sure that we take the best care of Kamloops so generations to come get to enjoy and reap the benefits of this amazing place we are all so privileged to get to call home

My entire career has been in education. The Kamloops-Thompson School District has been very good to me in my career and upon retirement I saw an opportunity to continue to support the education in our district by running for the school board. In the 2014 civic election I was successful and for the past four years I have enjoyed being a part of what I consider to be a very progressive school district. This is an exciting time in education with the implementation of a new provincial curriculum and the school district now going into it's second year of its five year strategic plan. As well, we continue to be very active in pressuring the provincial government for what we believe is our rightful portion of the Capital funding they allocate each year. I love what I do and so have chosen to run for re-election.

The simple reason is because I believe I have something to contribute to the ongoing conversation on how we grow our community.
There are issues I have been writing about for years as a reporter that I want to help tackle and hopefully move forward. Those include adequate transit for all areas of our city, dealing with vacant land that has spent years with for sale signs on it with no takers. There must be a reason for this and I’d like to help identify it and address it.
More importantly, though, I’m running because of how I view the role of a city councillor. It’s really being a public servant and that means not waiting for those who you serve to contact you on issues or to provide input but to seek it out. It means not waiting for public hearings but gather in the neighbourhood coffee shops or community centres to ask questions but, more importantly, to listen to the answers.
I’ve been doing that for decades in one role — and believe it’s now important to do it in a true public service way

Jennifer Adams

Running for council is a calling for me. I am very interested in policy and politics and feel that my experience in contracting, real estate development and as a small business employer will benefit the city. I am not afraid to handle the difficult issues, have a good head for budgets and numbers, an ear that listens and a voice I am not afraid to use to represent the people needs. I have great ideas and think outside the box.

Beat Klossner

There is a great need for refreshing the Board of Education. It has become to comfortable and there is a great need for more questions and debate around the issues.

Adam Jensen

I am running for a Trustee position because I have been a member of this community for the entire 33 years of my life, and my family has lived in Kamloops for three generations. I have many friends, family and other connections in the area that have children in the school system that I care very much about. Although I do not have children myself yet. I am also running to encourage more adults that don’t have kids or even plan to have kids to get involved in any way they can with youth organizations in their community. I believe it takes a community to raise a child, and that the youth of today are our future and need to be advocates for them, so they can grow up to be intelligent supporters of their communities.
