Jennifer Davis asks the Mayor Candidates

Do you support starting curbside composting in Kamloops? If so would you expect citizens to reduce their need for garbage collection? Also what timeframe do you see curbside composting implemented in?

Alison Klie

I think it is an interesting idea. It all comes down to cost though. I admit that with the composting sites having more limited hours now it is becoming harder to responsibly dispose of that type of waste. There is also the issue with storing it in animal proof containers if they are going to be kept outside and having to change the trucks. If there is a way to do all of this and still have it be cost effective then I would definitely support implementing this type of program. I believe it would be a positive step toward being more environmentally friendly.

I'd like to see compost pick up (for those without easy access to a garden area). I'm guessing it would take at least a year to get the program started.

Gerald Watson

I am in favour of curbside composting. Whether and when it might be implemented will come down to cost and any devil in the details that arise from preparing a plan.
