Meet The Candidates for the 2018 Kamloops Municipal Election

With the deadline for nomination documents of Friday September 14, 2018 passed, it looks like we have an interesting list of candidates for the election ahead.

We ended up with only 2 candidates for Mayor compared to 4 candidates in the 2014 election and 5 in the 2017 by-election. None of the 2014 or 2017 mayoral candidates are returning for the 2018 election. Newcomer William James Turnbull is the only one to challenge Ken Christian for Mayor, hoping to end his 1 year run.

21 candidates have put their name forward for City Council compared to 28 in 2014 and 21 in the 2017 by-election. With the 2017 election moving Ken Christian from City Council to Mayor and 3 other Councillors deciding not to run in 2018, we have 4 incumbents from the 2014 election and 2 from the 2017 by-election. Of the 21 candidates for City Council, 9 are returning candidates from the 2017 by-election. The five newcomers, not having ran in the 2014 or 2017 elections include Dale Bass, Chris Bose, Corally Delwo, Shawn Harnett, and Alison Klie.

There’s a total of 10 candidates for School Trustee, compared to 16 in 2014. One notable fact is that there’s one candidate running for both City Council and School Trustee.

The 2018 election will take place on October 20th. You can see where you can vote on the list of Voting Locations on Kamloops Voter.

Take a little time and show your support for the candidates that you support by creating an endorsement. Just view their profiles on Kamloops Voter and click the Endorsement button.

Voters can also engage those running by Asking A Question much like you would do at a microphone at a forum.
